We are excited to introduce the new Leisure, Health & Wellness Bursary. This bursary is a collaborative venture with organizations mentioned below and was developed based on recommendations from the Leisure Redesign Task group report of April 2008. This new bursary is administered via Open Door Group Social Services Society with the support of the Leisure Health and Wellness Bursary steering committee and also includes funds from the previous Vancouver Mental Health Services "Why Weight for Wellness" bursary.
The bursary is projected to support approximately 100 applications each fiscal year. In order to sustain this unique funding opportunity we rely on your timely feedback in the form of an easy to use and short online bursary plan review which you will complete 3 months post bursary access.
Participation in personally and socially meaningful activities is an important strategy to promote health, social justice and citizenship for everyone including people who live with mental health issues. We look forward to helping people sustain participation in activities of their choice as a means to fulfil their unique independent leisure, health and wellness plan.
Bursary draws take place every two months on the 15th of each month. So the draws will take place during the following months: February, April, June, August, October, and December. You will receive confirmation approximately 1 week after the draw. You will then have one month to book an appointment to receive your bursary. If you are not able to meet this timeline you will no longer be eligible to receive a bursary for that term however, you may apply for the next term. Due to the volume of applications submitted each term not every applicant will be approved to receive a bursary. If you do not receive notification approximately 7 days after the draw date we encourage you to reapply for the next term. Applications submitted for one term will not carry over to the next term.
Applicants must be referred by a professional and can include: Recreation Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Case Manager, Nurse, Social Worker, Psychiatrist, Doctor etc. This bursary can be applied for every 2 years with the maximum award of $150 per person.
